After rendering election duties on May 9, members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) are preparing to secure the opening of classes in public schools on June 13, a police official said yesterday.

At least 19,800 police and military personnel were deployed in Metro Manila for the polls.

NCRPO chief Director Joel Pagdilao said the police officers would return to their normal duties in going after criminals.

“We will not lower our guard after securing the 729 polling precincts in Metro Manila. We have another job to do, and that is to secure the school opening on June 13,” Pagdilao said in an interview.

The NCRPO chief said no election-related violence was recorded in the metropolis during the 90-day campaign period.

Pagdilao ordered the pullout of the police and military personnel from election duties after the vote counting machines and other election paraphernalia were returned to the warehouse of the Commission on Elections in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

He said the remaining police and military contingents were securing the Philippine International Convention Center where the canvassing of votes is being held.
