Gonzales, Capadocia rule Toby’s-Wilson tennis

Defending champion Cenon Gonzales Jr. and Charito Jade Capadocia bested their respective rivals in the 18-and-under category recently to top the 15th Toby’s-Wilson Summer Tennis Festival at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Top seed Gonzales Jr. whipped Emmanuel Fuellas, 6-0, 6-2, to take the boys’ 18-U, while Capadocia outplayed Bettina Bautista, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4, to top the girls’ 18-U.

The other winners were Stefano Gurria over RJ Virrey (16-U), 6-3, 6-3, top seed Aljohn Talatayod over Matthew Garcia (14-U), 6-4, 6-3, Luis Miguel Vicencio over Shant Nuguit (12-U), 6-2, 6-1, and top seed Brent So over Lukas Yupangco (10-U unisex), 4-2, 4-2.

The non-rank category winners were Joaquin de Leon over Don Silvan Miguel (12-U), 8-5, Theodore Serrano over Michael Jay Fuentes (16-U) , 8-7, and Cindy Nuguit over Eliza Marie Geluz (16-U), 8-1. The tournament, supported by Toby’s Sports and Wilson, is held in cooperatio­n with the Philippine Tennis Associatio­n (Philta), Equipe, AQ and Gatorade.
