THE ROTARY CLUB OF MAKATI, the oldest and largest in District 3830, recently marked half a century of community service with pomp and circumstance. Club president Eddie Yap together with 28 still active past presidents and officers led the festivities. An anniversary gala dinner was held at Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The ballroom, specially produced by Eddie Yap, was made to resemble London’s Royal Opera House auditorium during the Vienna Spring Festival. The women arrived wearing ball gowns, opera gloves, little tiaras, and carrying big fans, while the gentlemen came in tux with golden bowties. For the first time ever, the club conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award on Rotary International past director Rafael “Paing”
Hechanova, who, in turn, presented 10 outstanding community service awards to the 10 Rotary Districts in the country. Retired chief justice Art Panganiban also received a special award for his staunch support of the club’s air quality monitoring system project. Congratulations to all!
