JP Voltes rips Forza, gains solo second in UFL tilt

- – Olmin Leyba

J Baguioro and Takumi Uesato took charge as JP Voltes regained its winning ways via a 7-1 rout of Forza and took solo second in the UFL League Sunday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Baguioro, a Negrense who’s on loan from Ceres-La Salle, and Uesato, a Japanese striker, each fired a hat trick while Kevin Skinker completed scoring as Voltes rebounded from its 0-4 setback to pacesetter Global FC and picked up its ninth point.

Baguioro opened scoring with a brilliant individual finish in the 13th minute then followed it up with strikes in the 38th and 43rd. Uesato netted his treble in the 39th, 40th and fourth minute of first half stoppage time while Skinker connected in the 45th as Voltes entered the break with a 7-0 tear.

Forza, which averted a shutout with Hayato Aoki’s 56th minute effort, remained with one point in the table.

Green Archers United, meanwhile, won over Laos FC via default to hike its tally to seven points and solo third.

In the last game, Stallion FC leaned on a Ruben Doctora finish to stun AFC Cup Round-of-16 participant Kaya FC, 1-0, for its first win a two-loss start.

Doctora intercepted the ball and rounded out Kaya custodian Matthew Acton to put Stallion ahead at the 25th minute. Then coach Ernie Nierras’ side put up a tough defensive stand anchored on keeper Roland Sadia the rest of the way en route to extracting the full points.

Stallion caught up with Kaya, which was coming off an AFC Cup away match in Maldives a couple of days before, in a big bunch at fifth spot.

“We’re lucky to win. Kaya played very well, their AFC Cup games really helped them. If they were sharp in the beginning it would have been a different story,” said Nierras.
