Foton faces Army B in Superliga beach volley quarterfinal

Foton hopes to continue its surge on the sand when it battles dangerous RC Cola-Army B in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Philippine Superliga Challenge Cup beach volleyball competition today at the SM By the Bay in Mall of Asia.

Featuring the tandem of Cherry Rondina and Patty Orendain, Foton is tipped to go all out against Lady Troopers Genie Sabas and Jeannie Delos Reyes in the 6:30 p.m. encounter of the tournament bankrolled by Asics, Mikasa, Senoh, Petron, Foton with TV5 as official broadcast partner.

Also, F2 Logistics of Aby Marano and Danika Gendrauli tackles Petron XCS of Bang Pineda and Aiza Pontillas at 3:30 p.m. while heavyweight RC Cola-Army A of Jovelyn Gonzaga and Nene Bautista will face Petron Sprint 4T of Frances Molina and Maica Morada at 4:30 p.m. Standard Insurance-Navy B of Pau Soriano and Norie Jane Diaz clashes with FEU-Petron of Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza at 5:30 p.m.

Also expected to draw another mammoth weekend crowd are the battles in the men’s side with good-looking twins Daniel and Tim Young of SM By the Bay tangling with TVM of Kris Guzman and Christian Arbasto at 7:30 p.m. while Wayuk and IEM will clash in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m.

Rondina and Orendain pulled off an earth-shaking victory over Petron Sprint 4T last week, 21-9, 21-8, sending a strong message that they should also be considered as a team-to-beat.

Rondina, the former queen of the sand in Cebu and an incoming junior at the University of Santo Tomas, stunned the crowd with her powerful attacks and nose for the ball on the defensive end.
