DOE, Petron hold 1st Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run

CLARK, Pampanga – Seventy motor vehicles from various car companies participat­ed in the country’s first Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run Friday, whose data will be groundwork for an expanded energy efficiency standards including motor vehicles.

The Department of Energy (DOE), in partnershi­p with Petron Corp., conducted the Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run 2016 past 12 midnight Friday to promote fuel economy awareness among consumers.

“What we want is to come out with a Euro 4 standard with motor vehicles… as part of our COP21 commitment,” DOE Undersecre­tary Donato Marcos said in an interview.

He said 36 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from motor vehicles.

Now that the country is Euro 4-compliant, there will be a 90 percent reduction of emissions from the previous Euro 2 fuels, Marcos said.

Twenty-two car manufactur­ers and importers in the fuel economy run sent 70 motor vehicles to participat­e in the activity to travel a distance of about 300 kilometers at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Of the total vehicles, 38 units were gasoline-fed and 32 diesel-fed.

“With Petron Clark station in Angeles, Pampanga as the take-off and finish point, the run traversed some 300 kilometers on the Subic-ClarkTarla­c Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac– Pangasinan– La Union Expressway (TPLEX),” Petron said.

The car companies include Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. ( Tata Motors), Eurobrands Distributo­r Inc. (Peugeot Philippine­s), Automobile Central Enterprise Inc. (Volkswagen), Asianbrand­s Motors Corp. (Mahindra), Berjaya Auto Philippine­s (Mazda), Ssangyong Berjaya Motor Philippine­s, Bayan Automotive Industries Corp., Isuzu Philippine­s Corp., Nissan Philippine­s Inc., PGA Cars Inc., Volvo Philippine­s, Toyota Motors Philippine­s Corp., Suzuki Philippine­s Inc., Columbian Autocar Cop. (Kia), Ford Group Philippine­s, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., Honda Philippine­s Inc., British United Automobile­s Inc. ( Mini), Mitsubishi Motors Philippine­s Corp., Motor Image Philippine­s Inc. (Subaru), The Covenant Car Co. Inc. (Chevrolet Philippine­s) and Foton Motors Philippine­s Inc.
