ABS-CBN, GMA claim TV ratings lead anew

ABS-CBN Corp. continued to lead nationwide television (TV) ratings in May, while GMA Network Inc. dominated Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in the same month.

Citing data from Kantar Media, ABSCBN said in a statement it earned 44 percent audience share across urban and rural households in the country in May compared to GMA’s 32 percent and TV5’s eight percent.

Kantar Media which provides TV audience measuremen­t, used a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN also claimed leadership in key territorie­s for total day TV viewership.

In areas outside Mega Manila or Balance Luzon, ABS-CBN got a 47 percent audience share, higher than GMA’s 33 percent and TV5’s seven percent.

Of the total audience share in the Visayas, ABS-CBN accounted for 54 percent, while GMA got a lower 24 percent and TV5 had nine percent.

As for Mindanao, ABS-CBN had a 54 percent audience share, ahead of GMA’s 27 percent and TV5’s eight percent.

ABS-CBN likewise ruled the primetime block (6 p.m. to 12 midnight), which is considered the most important part of the day as this when most Filipinos watch TV and advertiser­s put in the bulk of their investment to reach more consumers.

In particular, ABS-CBN got a 49 percent audience share in the primetime block, while GMAhad 31 percent and TV5 held six percent.

GMA said in a statement it maintained its advantage in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila which respective­ly account for 77 percent and 60 percent of all urban TV households in the country, based on data from Nielsen TV Audience Measuremen­t.

Nielsen reportedly used data from 2,000 homes based in urban areas.

In Urban Luzon, GMA took the top spot through its 38.9 percent audience share, beating ABS-CBN’s 30.3 percent and TV5’s 7.7 percent.

GMA was likewise the winner in Mega Manila with 40.9 percent, besting ABSCBN’s 27.1 percent and TV5’s 8.2 percent.

In terms of National Urban Television Audience Measuremen­t, GMA continued to have strong ratings performanc­e in the daytime blocks.

For the morning block, GMA registered 30.5 percent, better than ABS-CBN’s 29.3 percent and TV5’s 12.2 percent.

It was also ahead of competitio­n in the afternoon block with its 36 percent share against ABS-CBN’s 35.6 percent and TV5’s 7.4 percent.
