Go play at Sandbox

Alviera holds outdoor fun at Sandbox adventure park in Porac, Pampanga — think Takeshi’s Castle, Wipeout and Gladiators.

I t is billed as the first game show-styled playground in the world. On Saturday, June 11, Alviera’s Sandbox adventure park in Porac, Pampanga will be the venue for Go Play, a full day of outdoor fun and wacky games inspired by hit TV game shows like

Takeshi’s Castle, Wipeout and Gladiators. You remember watching the players as they tackled difficult challenges and numerous obstacle courses that were set up for the popular Japanese and American TV series. Perhaps, you might even have wondered how you would fare if you were given the chance to participate in the games yourself. Now, you can.

How would you like to play Human Foosball, stuck to a moving pole while trying to score a goal, much the same way you would manipulate the miniature soccer players in a regular game-room foosball table. Or play the gladiator and face off against an opponent on a pedestal platform “while everything but the kitchen sink is thrown at you.” First one to do five knockdowns wins. Race against time in a sumo suit in the Sumo Relay. Bounce, crawl, climb and conquer the course in less than two minutes in the Wacky Inflatable Challenge. Charge your way to an enemy’s base in a zorb ball, “the ultimate roll-around costume.” Roll, bounce and repeat, in the game called Agawan Base-Zorb Edition. These are just some of the wacky games you can participate in at Go Play on your day of fun in Porac.

Form a team with your friends and enter the Breakout Philippines Escape Room. Find clues and escape before time runs out in the country’s premier escape room game. In the Brain Game, you and your teammates need to put your heads together for some mind exercises to solve puzzles and illusions. In the Communication Game, a team member has to direct his mates to arrange items on the floor correctly, while they are all blindfolded. In the Caterpillar Run, the team is given only three minutes to step inside a circular tarpaulin track and walk in unison as the track passes through their hands.

Enjoy bonding time with your family. The Inflatable Play Area is open for children 13 years old and below. Join the Foam Bash and dance around the foam pit set up in front of the stage every hour as local DJs spin some cool summer hits. There’s no need to worry about getting hungry or thirsty after joining all these activities as there will be food stalls offering a wide array of food choices all day.

The Go Play playground will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Just think of it as one giant outdoor arcade. A regular Go Player starts off with 10 points while an Extreme Go Player starts with 20 points. Extreme activities include Buzzingo, “an absurdly fun version of Bingo” where players will have to risk their tickets for Bingo cards. The winner gets 1,000 tickets. In Extreme Jack & Poy, the player risks five tickets and tries to win six consecutive encounters in the popular childhood game, accumulating tickets from the losers until only two players are left. The final winner gets all the tickets from the last opponent standing.

Not everyone needs to participate in the games. You can choose to be a spectator and still enjoy the sights and sounds, the thrills and excitement of Go Play. You may also want to try the SandBox attractions such as the Giant Swing, Aerial Walk, wall climbing and Avatar One rollercoaster zipline, with the purchase of discounted tickets on that day.

“The SandBox, with its many adventure park attractions, is the initial feature of Alviera, the mixed-use master-planned estate of Ayala Land, which is envisioned to become the foremost lifestyle and business center in the future regional growth center in Central Luzon,” says Jomi de Guzman, project development manager of Ayala Land strategic landbank management group. “Alviera Go Play is another one of our signature events to cap off the summer. This is the kind of experience one enjoys in Alviera, the kind that lets everyone participate in the fun and appreciate the outdoors.”
