Air Force seeks a share of the lead with a streaking Pocari Sweat side as it collides with University of the Philippines today in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13-Open Conference at The San Juan Arena.

The Lady Jet Spikers overpowered the Baguio Summer Spikers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, last Saturday after trouncing the undermanned BaliPure squad last week, putting the comebacking squad on track in the early going of the season-opening conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s and organized by Sports Vision.

Despite their fine start, Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez has opted to downplay their chances and instead urges his wards to toughen up and improve their reception and net and floor defense.

“We need to receive and defend better for us to sustain our good start,” said Jimenez.

Gametime is at 4 p.m. with Air Force, which hardly showed the effects of its two-year absence in the league where it all started, tipped to unleash its firepower against the young UP side.

The Lady Maroons bowed to the Pocari Lady Warriors in the inaugurals last May 28 before the latter picked two more wins, including a straight-set romp over Team Laoag last Saturday to seize the solo lead at 3-0 in the league backed by Mikasa and Accel.

Meanwhile, National U tries to bounce back from its sorry five-set setback to Pocari Sweat last Wednesday as it faces BaliPure at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will be shown live on ABS-CBN Sports + Action Channel 23, according to the organizing Sports Vision.

The Lady Bulldogs, who dropped to 1-1 following a fourset win over the Laoag Power Smashers, hope to pounce on the continued absence of Alyssa Valdez and Gretchel Soltones, who are currently in France as part of their European tour.

“They will not play yet,” Bali Pure playing coach Charo Soriano told The STAR, referring to Valdez and Soltones.

The power-hitting duo are expected to be back Wednesday in time for their match against the Iriga Lady Oragons.

Former high school ace Jasmin Nabor is expected to assume playmaking chores again for the Lady Bulldogs after she normed 38 excellent sets after two games.
