- IRIS GONZALES

CEBU – Ayala Land Inc. and Cebu-based AboitizLand are initially investing P10 billion for the first phase development of a new mixed-use community in Mandaue, Cebu.

ALI president Bobby Dy said the project dubbed Gatewalk Central would comprise residential, retail and office components.

The project, which is expected to create at least 10,000 jobs, broke ground yesterday.

“This multibillion peso investment shows Ayala Land’s confidence in Mandaue City as one of the emerging growth cities in the region,” Dy said.

Dy said Gatewalk Central would add to its portfolio of masterplanned estates such as the Makati central business district, Bonifacio Global City, and Cebu Business Park.

AboitizLand, for its part, said the project fortifies its purpose toward nurturing local communities through strong and pioneering concepts.

“This has been a very strategic partnership for us as we share a lot of common values in building sustainable communities,” said Andoni Aboitiz, president and CEO of AboitzLand.

The 17.5- hectare estate will rise in Subangdaku, Mandaue City and is envisioned to be the dynamic center of the city. It is easily accessible via three national roads—Lopez Jaena St., M. Logarta St., and Ouano Avenue.

Ayala Land affiliate Cebu Holdings Inc. president Aniceto Bisnar Jr. said the mixed-use development will have a mall as well as residential projects under the various Ayala brands.

There will be office buildings, a range of residential options, family- friendly parks, refreshing retail selections, and an Ayala Mall,” he said.

The first residential development at Gatewalk Central will be under the Avida brand, targeting young professionals and families.
