SMF conducts medical missions in Manila, Cavite, Panay
May was a busy month for SM Foundation’s health and medical team as four medical and dental missions were conducted in Sta. Mesa, Manila; Silang, Cavite; Passi City; and Concepcion, Iloilo.
At SM City Sta. Mesa the medical mission held to coincide with the 175th year celebration of Watsons served 1,334 beneficiaries.
Conducted in collaboration with partners and pharmaceutical companies, services dispensed included medical consultation, dental extraction, ECG, chest x-ray, bone density exam and blood chemistry.
Aside from SM volunteer doctors, doctors from the Manila health department, San Lazaro Hospital, Tondo Medical Center, Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Manila Medical Society, and Tondo Medical Society were on deck to share their expertise.
In Silang, Cavite, the medical and dental mission was conducted at the Sisters of Mary Boystown in Adlas. It is one of the campuses of the Sisters of Mary School which is a non- stock, non- profit, non-paying, live-in secondary institution for the poor.
The school is maintained and supported mainly by donations, gifts and bequests. The mission was conducted as a collaborative project on TB with Children with the Philippine Business for Social Progress.
Other project partners were MultiCare Pharma, Willore Pharma, Chummy Chum Foundation, Order of Malta, Silang rural health unit, and Cavite Medical Society who made sure SM volunteer doctors are ably assisted.
Medical consultation, dental extraction, chest xray, ECG, and body mass index determination were conducted among Boystown residents.
Those who availed of the medical services totalled 1,049 individuals.
Ephraim Santibanez National High School, SMFI’s adopted school, was the site of a medical mission which dispensed medical services such as consultation, dental extraction, chest x- ray and ECG to 729 beneficiaries.
Collaborating with SM Foundation in the endeavor were Barangay Sto. Tomas officials and the family of Ephraim Santibanez led by Edmund and Rebecca Santibanez.
Support was also extended by the DOH regional office, the Passi City health office, Calinog Hospital, and Provincial Health Office.
At the SM Cares Iloilo housing project located in the municipality of Concepcion, Iloilo, the medical mission conducted in collaboration with the city health office and DOH regional office served 950 patients.
Since January 2016, SM Foundation has conducted 38 medical missions with 24,635 beneficiaries. The Foundation has conducted 1,169 medical missions since its launch in 2001 with 865,771 beneficiaries.
