Regine in classy mall shows
Regine Velasquez-Alcasid is obviously not the type of act that audiences can frequently see at mall shows. Thus, it was fair enough that the stage set for her at a recent SM Bacoor gig in Cavite imbued the look of class and first-rate professionalism — from the sofa and high stools to the gear and playing of the session musicians backing her up.
It’s a mall show worth the wait, at least for shoppers hoping to catch a celebrity or avid fans wanting to see her in an intimate venue. And when it was her time to deliver, boy she did as expected — in high-powered vocals and street-smart spiels.
The countrywide leg is promoting the PLDT Home Regine Telset Series where subscribers are offered modernized landline designs along with the best NDD and IDD call packages yet possible.
Last year, a five-week mall run by the Songbird made it clear that she was at home with the set as crowds found themselves seemingly reintroduced to her.
PLDT VP and Home marketing head Gary Dujali noted, “The success was unprecedented that’s why we are bringing the mall series back. I remember how fast our stocks ran out within days after the launch. It is an honor for us to have Regine help spread the great news about the product line appropriately named after her.”
Perhaps trying to dress up to fit into the mall show atmosphere, Regine wore jeans and a red long sleeves that somewhat sent the message that she’s not performing in some solid concert venue. But the performance was, as always, breathtaking as she sang some of her major hits including movie themes Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw and Ikaw and her versions of Rivermaya’s Hinahanap-hanap Kita and her husband Ogie Alcasid’s hit Ako’y Iyong Iyo. Prior to show proper, a bunch of Regine wannabes slugged it out singing her hits like Dadalhin and You Are My Song. Most of the participants were actually gays, including winner Renz Lee Perez.
To close the show, she interpreted Eraserheads classics, with her wannabes joining her on stage.
“There’s no place I’d rather be than at home,” she implied, perfectly complementing the stage’s homey design.
Gary concluded, “We are humbled by the gesture of the public to the Regine shows. We want to spread goodwill and propagate world-class music by bringing in a world-class talent where she can reach more of her audience.”
