- By MYLENE MENDOZA-DAYRIT

Commercial model Bryann Foronda used to work as a nurse in the United States where he grew up with a younger sister. Bullied as a fat kid, Bryann has gone a long way physique- wise. Extremely disciplined, he is a fitness inspiration to many.

THE PHILIPPINE STAR: Were you always athletic as a child?

BRYANN FORONDA: Yeah, I’ve been into sports since I was young. My first sport was swimming because I had asthma before. I used it as a therapy and then I eventually got into other sports. Throughout high school in the US, I was active in the basketball team, football team, and soccer team. I tried to get into all the sports.

So how did you get into fitness?

I played sports as a hobby before. But it was when I got into modeling that I started really getting into fitness. When I started working out, I just wanted to look good, but I later realized that it was also a means to inspire and share values. That makes it fun. It’s better not to keep what you learn to yourself.

Do you follow any type of diet?

Yes. I usually track what I eat. For me, calories are kings and macronutrients are queens. So I pretty much base my food intake on calories and macronutrients.

How do you monitor your food intake?

I monitor it just by listening to my body. Like now, I pretty much stick to 1,500 calories, 180 grams of proteins, 170 grams carbs, and 47 grams fats. I base it on how I look and how I feel.

In terms of working out, what regimen do you follow?

My working-out regimen is Monday to Thursday, I do compound workouts, so those are heavy lifting. Every Friday, I do conditioning. And every Saturday, I do my favorite sport. And then rest day on Sunday. Six out of seven days a week, I work out.

What other fitness goals are you targeting to achieve?

I want to improve my functional strength.

What was the biggest challenge that you faced in your life?

My biggest challenge in life was that I used to be a fat kid. I really had to take the time to figure out my body. People teased me for it before, they used to make fun of my big butt.

How did you overcome it?

I just started getting into fitness and started doing sports.

One reason I got into sports was that I wanted to lose weight.

What do you think is your greatest achievement and how did you reach it?

In terms of my modeling career back in 2010 when I was a centerfold for Cosmopolitan. I reached that because of working hard, keeping fit, and dieting hard.

What words do you live by? What are your hobbies or interests outside fitness?

Animals. I really love dogs. I have two big dogs, a Labrador and a Golden retriever. Treat your body like your girlfriend. Love it and be unpredictable. Post me a note at mylene@goldsgym.com. ph or mylenedayrit@gmail.com.
