Mariko Jacinto’s Commitment
Luxury jewelry store Hueb recently collaborated with Filipina artist Mariko Jacinto, who introduced a set of paintings depicting her spirituality and her love for nature and people. Jacinto, for her first solo exhibit in New York, painted images of people and scenic spots from various landscapes titled Commitment at the New York flagship store of Hueb. Jacinto and Soigne Kothari of Hueb selected signature pieces that went with each of Jacinto’s 25 latest artworks.
Born to a Japanese mother and a Filipino father, Jacinto studied anatomy and f igure painting under renowned American portraitist Sam Adoquei. She learned still life painting under Henry Finkelstein at the National Academy of Design in New York. She also took up life and portraiture painting under Oldrich Teply, and abstract painting under
Frank O’Cain at the Art Students League. A mother of five, Jacinto is both an entrepreneur and a visual artist who divides her time between New York and the Philippines.
The artist believes that one has to be passionate and determined with all the things one does in life. Through her artwork, Jacinto conveys her message to her viewers and spectators that the life force and energy give mankind the power to think and do good.
Since 1997, Jacinto has done a lot of exhibits in Manila. In 2016, she made her exodus to the Big Apple to show the world of her talent that is from within.
“I have been to so many obstacles in life. Those never stopped me from pursuing my dreams in the field of art. New York is the city that gives hope to artists like me. The energy that I have transferred to my artwork will be shared to the people who will view my exhibit. All I think in life is to be positive and share all the knowledge I need to show. It is another path I have to take. I am delighted that this city will give me the opportunity to keep on pursuing and achieving my dreams,” Jacinto said.
The event was hosted by Soigne Kothari, Thiago and Priscilla Hueb and New York- based fashion stylist and consultant PJ Pascual.
Guests enjoyed cocktail sand canapés by Pizza Rollio. Sponsors included Icelandic Glacial, Pizza Rollio and PJ Pascual. ( For inquiries, e- mail marikojacinto@yahoo.com.) (Follow me on Instagram @pepperteehankee.)
