Biazon wants Noy honored for steering case vs China
A returning lawmaker has filed a resolution giving recognition and the “highest accolades” to former president Benigno Aquino III and his team for steering the country to victory in an international court battle against China over the West Philippine Sea.
Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, a former Liberal Party ally who once served as Aquino’s Customs commissioner, stated in his House Resolution 78 that the former president and several others deserve “gratitude and congratulations” for winning the case.
“They deserve the highest accolades and the gratitude of a thankful nation for the patriotism and nationalism which they displayed as they stood up for the rights and interests of the Filipino people in the defense of the Philippines’ case,” his two-page resolution read.
“The nation is grateful to Aquino who provided the leadership in pursuing and defending Philippine interests in the West Philippine Sea in a peaceful manner and in accordance with in- ternational law and principles,” he added in the resolution.
Biazon, now a member of the super majority coalition under prospective speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, said the “dedication, expertise, professionalism” of other government officials should also be commended, as this “led to the efficient and effective handling of our case.”
He also expressed hopes the ruling – a “victory for the Philippines and a triumph of law” – would help “stabilize the situation in the West Philippine Sea and the entire Asian region, which has been precarious due to these unlawful activities of China.”
