DENIM DAZE

There’s a denim look for everyone and for every occasion at SM’s Denim Nation

Feeling blue? Shop reinvented denim classics at SM Supermalls.

Y ou can’t beat a true-blue classic like denim. This season, denim comes in any form: overalls, an off- shoulder top, even an office- ready pencil skirt. The trick is to find something that is true to you (be it your inner rocker, an androgynous look, or ultra feminine style), yet directional. You want your style to be as real as the person you’ve become.

Actress, young mom and social media style star Sarah Lahbati demonstrates this to great effect in the July issue cover story of Shopmag (smshopmag. com) as she doubles up on the denim with a laidback take on the Canadian tux, opting for a wellfitted jacket to balance out her ripped boyfriend jeans, both in a light wash. It’s a look she rocks herself.

“I’m a jeans-over-skirt kind of girl. I’m always on the go which is why I stock up on comfortable, stylish jeans,” the Zendaya, Olivia Palermo and Rihanna fan says. Proof of her self-declared obsession? “I have two pairs of the same ripped jeans just in case something happens to the other one.”

The thing with denim is it’s such a versatile fabric. Depending on the wash and finish, it can be fashioned into any piece you can think of, so you can wear denim from head-to-toe for a streamlined look which says effortless cool — because it really is easy-breezy to wear and match.

But when is denim office-ready? When the fabric is unmarked and done in a classic silhouette. Like a chambray shirt which you can wear with a pinstripe pencil skirt (in soft, stretchable denim, of course) so you can get serious blue jean mileage even on the weekdays. Alternate your usual blazer with a dark- wash denim jacket, draped just so. Make the grade with black-framed lenses available at EO.

On Fridays, you can whip out the jeans but keep it office-ready in a cropped and straight cut and paired with a cuffed chambray shirt and you’ve got yourself a day-to-night, from desk-to-disco look. Switch the pumps for wedges and have some after-five fun.

Going courtside? For him, striped details on the jacket by Artwork to go with his 3 Stars and a Sun tee, Human cap and slides. For her, shop this look by Penshoppe, Merrell, Petit Monde, Forme, Girbaud, and Shubizz where the denim joggers stand out.

Catch up with your bestie for brunch with a no- brainer, fail- proof piece to elevate your look even if it’s a lazy Sunday: denim culottes, whether it’s those with the drawstrings by Promod or with a boyish fit by Penshoppe. Because brunch is a from- the- chest- up affair, go for a top with interesting details and in a denim that’s done in a similar wash to make mixing- andmatching a breeze, like cold- shoulder frills on a button- down shirt, as seen at Plains & Prints.

SM’s events should help you wiggle right in as you break into the denim- on- denim movement like a fresh pair of selvedges that are soon to be your favorites. Until July 31, shop your favorite denim pieces for up to 70 percent off at SM’s Denim Fair. Exercise your options, but should you need help narrowing things down, check out the Going Denim centerpieces and installations for a curated selection and styled looks, which will also be on view throughout the department store until July 31.

Found the perfect fit and style but something still amiss? Make it your own at DIY Denim, happening at all weekends of July. Customize your jeans into your own one- of- a- kind pair at SM’s DIY denim booths. Up the ante with edgy inks on your skin to match your jeans at the Tattoo Bar, also open on the weekends. Perfect for those off- shoulder and cropped top styles.
