PHL to host Asian conference on oral, maxillofac­ial surgery

The Philippine­s is leaving no stone unturned to make the 12th Asian Congress on Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgery ( ACOMS) a rewarding and fruitful experience for close to 1,000 delegates from various countries in Asia who are expected to attend.

To be hosted by the Philippine College of Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgeons ( PCOMS), the congress, set Nov. 9- 12 at the Manila Hotel with the theme “Embracing Technologi­es,” will feature scientific meetings with top-notch internatio­nal and local speakers, trade exhibits and social functions.

Mario Esquillo, president of the Asian Associatio­n of Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgery (AAOMS) and congress chairman and Fernando Fernandez, chairman of the organizing committee are inviting oral and maxillofac­ial surgeons, EENT specialist­s, plastic surgeons and students to register early with the Secretaria­t to avail of discounts.

This is the second time that PCOMS will be hosting the event which was first held in the country in 1989.

Currently headed by Cynthia del Castillo, PCOMS is the only accredited oral and maxillofac­ial surgery specialty associatio­n by the Philippine Dental Associatio­n, Asian Associatio­n of Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgery and Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgery.

PCOMS is the only accredited Oral and Maxillofac­ial Surgery specialty by the Profession­al Regulation Commission. There were only 42 PCOMS Fellows that were granted as specialist­s in the said field. Eusebio Nazareno, PCOMS founding president, is the acknowledg­ed godfather of Filipino oral and maxillofac­ial surgeons.
