Still friends after 70 years
Ame rica c elebrates July 4 as Independence Day because it was on this day in 1776, that members of the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence.
Through the years and with the growing inter-marriages, this tradition has found its way to our shores. A few establishments in Cebu have adopted this time honored tradition.
Celebrating 70 years of Philippine-American Friendship, the American Chamber of Commerce hosted a wellattended party that had for its theme, “Still Rockin' at 70.”
The program started with a toast by club president Jeff Minnick. Consular Agent in Cebu Glenn Loop did the hon- ors of introducing special guest and keynote speaker US Consul General Donna Blair.
Blair reiterated America’s commitment to defend its constitution and bear true faith and allegiance to that Constitution while at the same time ensuring basic freedom and equality for all.
The evening’s entertainment was provided by the Tuners Choir, Welfe Salvador and the Infinite Rhythm Band. A mini fashion show showcasing the evolution of fashion from the early fifties to the ‘70s culminated the evening’s festivities. *** In uptown Cebu, Quest Hotel, a popular choice for businessmen, offered guests a sumptuous dinner buffet that featured popular American treats such as clam chowder, salads and greens, hotdogs and hamburgers, meat loaf, tender steaks fresh off the grill and southern style fried chicken.
