Eastwood City: Healthiest mixed-use community in MM

-

Megaworld’s premier township Eastwood City was recognized as the healthiest Mixed Used Community in the Neighborhood Category by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC) at the inaugural Awards for Excellence in Sustainability and Health held recently at the Net Park in Taguig City.

The 18.5- hectare masterplanned township development was recognized for meeting ULI’s standards for the design and development of healthy environments for the benefit of the human population.

Eastwood City was cited for its pioneering and environmentfriendly design that meets ULI’s Ten Principles for Building Healthy Places, such as: Putting People First, Empowering Champions for Health, Energizing Shared Spaces, Making Healthy Choices Easy, Ensuring Equitable Access for all ages and physical abilities, Featuring Mixed-Used Qualities, Embracing a Unique Character, Promoting Access to Healthy Food as well as Encouraging Active Lifestyles and Raising the Economic Value of the property.

Recognized as the country’s first PEZA-accredited IT Park, Eastwood City has helped improve the quality of life in its neighborhood by designing a convenient, safe and ecofriendly environment that encourages the community to be more active.

As the country’s first largescale master planned township project and a pioneer in mixeduse developments, Eastwood City was able to create solutions that minimize the carbon footprint and heavy automobile congestion.

With its highly-integrated design, Eastwood City also promotes “walkable” convenience by placing homes, offices, retail establishment, entertainment and services within easy access to each other. It also places importance in greenery by installing planter boxes and living walls incorporated in the township’s aesthetic. There is also a variety of health, fitness and wellness facilities/establishments that makes healthy living more convenient for its community.

Moreover, Eastwood City also has a strong community aspect for the social wellbeing of its inhabitants. It is the Philippines’ first pet-friendly community that features plazas and open parks that promote socialization. Eastwood City also regularly mounts healthoriented events and campaigns to raise awareness.

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a globally recognized non-profit organization and is the leading authority in raising awareness on the direct link between health and real estate development.

Over the years it has been proven that irresponsible land development has been negatively impacting health by reinforcing unhealthy lifestyles. The ULI Philippines Building Healthy Places Awards recognizes the most successful and innovative projects that focus on the design and development of healthy environments for the benefit of the human population though it’s Ten Principles for Building Healthy Places.
