Pray you catch me

Pokémon fever has reawakened through Pokémon Go and it’s left us hungry for more. Here are five ideas for apps we wouldn’t mind leaving our houses for.

T here’s no better feeling than living long enough to see your childhood dreams turn into reality. We’ve all spent days collecting Pokémon and battling Pokémon trainers in the hopes of being the very best that no one ever was. And now here we are, blessed with a wonderful app called Pokémon Go. Just thinking about how we all started on Gameboy Color, advancing to an actual smart phone that can help us catch Pokémon, brings tears to anyone’s eyes.

Like the trainers in the video game, everyone’s dedicated to catching them all. Suddenly, videos of people flocking to Central Park, NYC just to catch a rare Pokémon surface on the Internet. Memes and even fashion editorials flood our Twitter timelines.

Now that the Pokémon fever has finally taken the streets of Manila, it’s time for our other childhood faves to step up their app game.

Here are some suggestions for alternative real-world-interactive Go games.

1. Cardcaptor Sakura Go

Cardcaptor Sakura is unlike any trading card game you’ve ever seen. While this isn’t exactly Hearthstone, it’s still super exciting. With Cardcaptor Sakura Go, you can explore your neighborhood for possible weird possessions that even the couple from The Conjuring can’t explain. Maybe it’s just a mythical spirit that’s making your blackboard move. All you have to do is open the app to scan your surroundings, do a twirl and a kick — or whatever the app tells you to do — and you can instantly capture the spirit and turn it to a Clow Card… at least in your phone. The app comes with a free Cerberus plushie for extra cute points while hunting.

2. Harry Potter Go

The company behind Pokémon Go announced that another childhood classic will get the VR treatment. While they’re still making the app, here’s our suggestion. Compared to the Harry Potter: Spells app released a few years ago, Harry Potter Go is so much more functional. You can control any electronic device with just a swish and flick. Want to turn on the lights? Hold your phone, twirl your wrist and just say “Lumos.” The more you use the app, the faster you climb the leaderboards. As always, the forbidden spells are always forbidden. Let’s follow some rules in this country, for once.

3. Dora the Explorer Go

We’ve all had our fair share of weird experiences while watching Dora the Explorer (i.e., screaming “Swiper, no swiping!” at the screen, jumping up and down when Dora tells you to, etc). It’s about time that we take this embarrassment outdoors. Complete with quests like talking to the Big Red Chicken or saving the Snow Queen — or in this case, your tita who just came from the States — from Greenhills shopping sprees, Dora the Explorer is the perfect game for adventure seekers or just a plain gala. All you have to do is go to a particular stop point and complete the task on the screen. Beware of actual swipers on the road.

4. Wild Thornberries Go

Make your zoo experience a little bit more exciting with Wild Thornberries Go. You can finally fulfill your Eliza Thornberry dreams and understand what our furry friends are saying. All you have to do is point your camera to a zoo animal and your phone will automatically translate what they’re saying. Don’t be fooled; if they’re saying “Let us go!” most of the time, it’s probably not a glitch. Weirdly charming family not included.

5. Game of Thrones Go

It’s been a full season since we last saw Robert Baratheon’s rumored bastard. With Game of Thrones Go, you can find Gendry’s recent whereabouts. There’s a higher chance of beating the game when you’re at the beach or near any body of water.
