4 drug suspects slain in Luzon
Three more drug suspects were killed in separate shootouts with police officers and another was shot dead by an unknown assailant in Luzon over the weekend.
The killings occurred in Laguna, Camarines Sur and Pangasinan on Saturday.
June Bihis and Michael Gadasa were killed in drug stings in San Pablo City and Sta. Cruz, respectively.
Both suspects were on the drug list of the police, according to Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson for Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police.
In Camarines Sur, Pablito Ona, 47, was killed during a sting in Barangay Carolina, Naga City.
Reports said Ona shot but missed Police Officer 2 Mark Portugal, who posed as an undercover agent.
This prompted Portugal’s companion, Police Officer 3 Junel Cea, to shoot the suspect.
Ona was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Rogelio Vargas was in an eatery in Barangay Pinmaludpod, Urdaneta City when he was killed by a lone gunman who posed as a customer.
In the same day, two drug suspects were arrested in Camarines Norte.
Oliver Aman, 37, said to be fifth on the police watchlist, was arrested in Jose Pan- ganiban town based on a warrant issued by Judge Roberto Escaro of Daet Regional Trial Court.
The other suspect, identified as Christian Tularan, was nabbed in a sting in Barangay Gubat, Daet.
Drug rehab at Negros Army camp starts
The Philippine Army in Negros Occidental is hosting a week-long rehabilitation of moderate drug dependents, who were among thousands who surrendered to the police.
2/Lt. Ma. Revekka Roperos, public information officer of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade ( IB), said the activity would provide leadership and wellness training to 50 participants.
The seven- day program – which started yesterday at Camp Maj. Nelson Gerona in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia – is an initiative of the provincial government, regional and provincial police offices, 303rd IB, local government agencies and non-government organizations.
Camp Gerona is one of two military camps in the region identified by the Armed Forces of the Philippines for use as drug rehabilitation centers.
The other was Camp Leon Kilat in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
