Filvets to conduct medical mission
The Filipino War Veterans Foundation Inc. is scheduled to conduct a medical mission at the covered court of Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City, Laguna at 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Aug. 31, to be led by Lt Gen. Raul Urgello AFP (Ret), executive director and chief operating officer of FILVETS.
Veterans/ retired soldiers and their dependents are invited to avail of free medical consultation, diagnostic procedures, medicines, food supplements and health aid devises.
Medical diagnostic procedures include electrocardiogram (ECG), bone density test, fasting/random blood sugar test (F/ RBS), and hearing check-up.
Alternative medicine procedures will be available such as acupressure, nerve and muscle massage therapy and foot spa detoxification.
Medicines for hypertension, coronary heart disease, respiratory disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, infection, allergy, fever cold, cough, aches and pains will be given to beneficiaries, health aid devises such as wheelchairs, walking canes and reading glasses will be given to veterans and spouses onneed basis.
Doctors, nurses, optometrists, medi- cal technicians and staff will be on hand to provide the necessary medical services.
This event will be conducted with the support of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corp. Industrial Authority, Philippine Veterans Bank, in coordination with the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, with the cooperation of Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Army General Hospital, Gruppo Technico Medico Inc., Brightmove Corp. and ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative, with volunteers from AFP/PNP Ladies Club of Diego Silang Village and Kampilan Peace Keepers Association.
Medical health care assistance for veterans and dependents residing in far areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are available at 11 medical outreach clinics of FILVETS, with each MOC manned by a doctor for medical consultation and a pharmacist to properly dispense the prescribed medicines and food supplements.
For veterans and spouses having cataract problem, FILVETS cataract operation program is still ongoing to address the common eye problem of the veterans, with the support of Foundation for Sight and Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loan Ass. Inc. Cataract operation is done by Victor Caparas, ophthalmologist surgeon at The Medical City hospital in Pasig City.
