The Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, Inc. (Mowelfund), through its educational arm Mowelfund Film Institute (MFI), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), Office of the Quezon City Mayor, CMB Film Services, Inc. and TeleNetwork Media Production held its culmination/graduation activity of the 2016 Intensive Filmmaking Workshop last Aug. 26 at Mowelfund Plaza, #66 Rosario Drive cor. Ilang-Ilang St., Cubao, Quezon City.

Highlighting the commencement rites was the screening of two short film projects of the participants. The awarding of certificates of participation followed.

Mowelfund announced that, in a recent development, two of its scholars and today’s graduates have been appointed by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to significant national positions: Aiza Seguerra as chairman of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and Liza Diño as chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

Both Aiza and Liza filmed their graduation theses together with 29 other students, under the supervision of MFI head, director Boy Vinarao and COO Edwin Joaquin. Aiza directed Kidnap, while another workshopper, Yves Penesa, directed

Ikatlong Apat. The graduates worked in two teams on the pre-production, principal photography and post-production of said 20-minute films. MFI hopes to enter the films in forthcoming short film festivals.

Coincidentally, Aiza had been elected to the Board of Mowelfund last June. She was inducted at the graduation.

Mowelfund is dedicating the Erap Diorama and the Joseph Estrada Hall to its founder and chairman emeritus. Over and above his unwavering assistance, Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada recently made a generous donation of P500,000 to augment the foundation’s operational funds. More recently, Regal Films’ Mother Lily Monteverde donated P1M during her birthday celebration last Aug. 19. A Lily Monteverde Livelihood project is in the offing.
