BEST OF BEAUTY

- By BELLE RODOLFO

If there was anything good that resulted from the #Brexit, it might be the clamor to book beauty appointments in a mad rush to relax (recent news reports show a spike in the spa business). Beauty as a mood booster is nothing new, so while it was pleasant to see bright new looks, it was no surprise, really. From big hair to bold color to braids and your best skin ever, London Fashion Week has everything for the beauty girl backstage.

LOUD MOUTHS

Bright hues were big for brands like Mary Katrantzou and Roksanda, whose models walked the runway with velvety pouts. Versus (Versace), meanwhile went all the way —bright eyes, bright lips everywhere. Pull off the look by setting it off against a canvas of bright, clean skin (more on that later).

TEXTURIZED HAIR

There’s no rest for retro as Topshop Unique teased tresses into a “soft ‘80s” look, complete with the supermodel swoosh. Grab an equally ‘80s product for this: hair mousse. Work it into damp hair before blow-drying upside down, the old school way. If you’ve tired of your fluffy ‘do, do like Bora Aksu girls and go crazy with the plait — the volume and texture from the big hair will help hold it in place.

ACCESSORIZE

While at Erdem, velvet ribbons adorned hairdos for instant chic. The Preen runways taught us another way to accessorize with flowers — and not by putting them in your hair. The English rose took on a new look when Val Garland pressed dried blooms onto models’ cheeks, décolletage, and even lips. While the latter is a little less wearable, ribbons are an easy look: tie your low ponytail or weave it into a French plait.

THE MIST

Girls will emerge from the great spa craze with one thing: their best skin ever. And Anya Hindmarch knows this — the girls on her runway walked with just-misted skin, instead of the previously highlighted. On JW Anderson, we spotted skin that had that “sexy sweat” but with a helping of softened peach blush for freshness. To get the no-highlight highlight glow, start with an illuminating cream as a primer before your foundation or, better yet, just concealer.
