8 dead in Navotas, Caloocan drug raids
At least eight suspected drug pushers and users were killed during simultaneous raids in Navotas and Caloocan before dawn yesterday.
Navotas police chief Senior Superintendent Dante Novicio said lawmen raided different areas at the fish port at around 5 a.m. and the suspects reportedly opted to shoot it out instead of surrendering.
He identified the fatalities as “Junjun Jasper,” “Gerald,” “Champoy,” “Nono,” and “Alvin Toyo.”
“As per intelligence report, 70 to 80 percent of the drug supply in the area comes from the market and we made sure that cut the lines,” Novicio told The STAR.
A rookie policeman died and three of his colleagues were wounded after suspected members of a drug syndicate ambushed them at the fish port in January 2015.
Four guns and an undetermined number of sachets of shabu were recovered from the suspects during yesterday’s raid, Novicio said.
Six alleged pushers were arrested and 30 others were invited for questioning.
In Caloocan, anti-drug police officers raided Daang Bakal in Guido 1, Barangay 33 shortly after midnight after receiving reports that several men were making drug deals in the area.
As they fled, the men shot at the pursuing police officers. Three of the suspects were killed while two escaped.
Three handguns and 15 sachets of shabu were recovered after the shootout, said Senior Superintendent Roberto Fajardo, Northern Police District director.
Another team arrested three suspects and took them for questioning.
Sex with minors
Meanwhile, an alleged pusher who reportedly lured girls to take drugs and have sex with him was shot dead in a sting in Manila yesterday.
Willie Ternora was killed in a bust staged at his house in Oro-B in Sta. Ana, Manila at around 1:30 a.m. after police received a tip that he and several others were having a pot session, said Superintendent Robert Domingo, Manila Police District Station 6 commander.
He said Ternora is on their drug watchlist.
Domingo said two girls were rescued at Ternora’s house and brought to the city social welfare office.
Enrique Torrea, 56; Zaira Gonzales, 23, and Ronaldo Bautista were also found in the house and put under arrest. In Pasig, jeepney driver Cristituto Abella, 51, was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants as he was walking along Bedana street in Barangay San Nicolas, Pasig City Thursday night.
Abella was listed as a pusher and user in Barangay San Nicolas’ drug watchlist, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District.
