Daquigan Philminiracers Classic champ

-

Classic car enthusiast Dexter Daquigan was crowned king of the Philminiracers Classic Mini 2016 at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently after acquiring a 38-point lead over his closest pursuer.

Boasting of a huge lead over second-running Rodney Caballero entering the race, Daquigan needed only to reach the finish line to secure the Philminiracers Classic Mini, but still ended up second for a huge 38-point lead over the dethroned champ. A 36-point lead would have been enough.

The Mohspeed Speed star driver upped his total to 140 points, with Caballero far away at 102 points.

“I still had a smile on my face even though I placed second. It was a true champion’s performance where I used my brain and fought until the end,” said Daquigan, who placed runner- up to Team Flashbacks’ Jason Coachuy during the race.

“I am deeply grateful to my Team Mohspeed Racing. We were the 2015 Classic Aspirated Cup overall champion, and now, the 2016 PhilMiniRacers Classic Mini titlists,” Daquigan added.

Despite his runner- up finish in the leg, Coachuy placed fourth overall in the standings (90 points), behind third-placer Borgy Zoleta ( 94 points). RJ De Guzman ( 59 points) and Carlos Castaneda (23 points) rounded out the Top 6.

“On my class, I competed against reigning champion Caballero, but on this race, it was Jason Choachuy, who won the race and I placed second, followed by Rodney. Not bad really, considering there were 18 drivers on the grid,” said Daquigan, who is also backed by Delta Star Transformer

Daquigan, who is also a Volkswagen enthusiast, now looks forward to the last leg of the season on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Clark International Speedway, where he won before entering the penultimate stage.

“Another exciting race looms. I would like to thank my team Mohspeed Racing Team – Morris Miranda, Armand Hipolito and Eddie Ferreras. These three mechanics are my secret formula why I am winning, together with my twin brother Dannie Daquigan for coaching me and always being there for me,” Daquigan said.

Daquigan dreams of competing abroad in classic car races. But his mission is not about winning a horde of trophies.

“My goal is to pass on the love for classic car races to the next generation. Classic cars are now very few. This is our history. I hope that someday, owners of old cars will revive them and turn them into race cars,” he said.
