Fans mob PSL-F2 Logistics vying in FIVB Women’s Club

A big crowd showed up for the PSL-F2 Logistics Manila at the music hall of Mall of Asia to express support to the team set to compete in the FIVB Women’s Club Championsh­ip starting Oct. 18 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Skipper Rachel Anne Daquis led the star-studded team in the meet and-greet session where nearly a thousand fans came to wish the team well before it slugs it out with seven of the best club teams in the world.

Daquis, the star spiker of RC Cola-Army in the Philippine Superliga, was joined by local stars Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Frances Molina, Jen Reyes and Jaja Santiago in rubbing elbows with the fans in a two-hour program full of fun, games and surprises.

Comely Yevgeniya Nyukhalova of Ukraine, Stephanie Niemer and Lindsay Stalzer of the United States, Tichaya Boonlert of Thailand, Lynda Morales of Puerto Rico, Yuri Fukuda of Japan and Ekaterina Krivets of Russia were also present to sign autographs and take selfies with the local fans.

As added treat, Japanese coach Shun Takahashi also made an appearance.

“This is our way of soliciting their support for a tough task ahead,” said Daquis, whose charm and winning attitude made her a favorite among local fans. “We thank them for coming over and throwing their support. We hope to see all of them when we start competing in the FIVB CWC on Oct. 18.”

Krivets added that it is her first time to see fans going out of their way to support them.

“We’re so flattered and overwhelme­d with the kind of support they are giving us,” said Krivets, a 6- foot- 6 middle blocker who is a veteran campaigner in European leagues. “The place was rocking and the crowd was incredible. We hope that everybody will go out to support us in this tough battle.”

PSL-F2 Logistics Manila will be competing against the Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and VakifBank of Turkey, Hisamitsu Springs Kobe of Japan, Pomi Casalmaggi­ore of Italy, Bangkok Glass of Thailand, RexonaSesc Rio of Brazil and Volero Zurich of Switzerlan­d.
