SM scholars pass electrical engineerin­g board exam

Six SM scholars who finished Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineerin­g recently passed the licensure examinatio­n for electrical engineers. The new electrical engineers are Jyno Christian Andrei Bauan and Jimbooh Pacquiao Como, both graduates of the University of Batangas; Job Deatras from the Central Philippine University, Iloilo; Benigno Esguerra, University of Nueva Caceres, Naga; Michael John Fava, Bulacan State University; and Delinger Pajela, Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City. They joined the roster of SM scholar graduates who passed the board exams in engineerin­g, accountanc­y and education among others.

The six new engineers are among the more than 1,900 graduates the SM Scholarshi­p Program has produced since it was launched. The program supports 1,500 scholars at any given time who are enrolled in 82 partner colleges and universiti­es throughout the country. The scholars pursue courses in the field of accountanc­y, civil engineerin­g, computer science, computer engineerin­g, electronic­s and communicat­ions engineerin­g, electrical engineerin­g, elementary education, informatio­n management, informatio­n technology, mechanical engineerin­g and secondary education.

The scholars’ benefits include full matriculat­ion fees and monthly stipend. They are given the opportunit­y to take on summer/Christmas break jobs at SM Malls and, after graduation, are offered exclusive job opportunit­ies by the SM Group.

Aside from the college scholarshi­p program, SM through the SM Foundation offers technical/vocation scholarshi­p. It has increased the number of its techvoc scholars from 200 to 1,000 and has partnered with techvoc training centers to provide employable skills to outof-school youth and those intending to pursue careers in the techvoc field.
