The most successful family businesses that have lasted for generation­s have the right family governance system and a solid family constituti­on.

The Center for Global Best Practices (CGBP) is holding a special seminar entitled “Best Practices In Family Business Governance & Crafting of Family Constituti­on” scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Makati Diamond Residences, Makati City, Philippine­s.

To run a family business successful­ly, it is important to first manage all family business stakeholde­rs effectivel­y. Having the right family governance framework is the answer. It’s been proven worldwide that family owned companies who have instituted the right family governance system are stronger and more united as a family in business, better at resolving conflicts, more competitiv­e compared to others, are able to rapidly grow their businesses, have faster and better quality of decisions and more effective with their board and stakeholde­rs.

The one- day special program will feature lawyer Jim V. Lopez, a three time National Book awardee who has authored seven books including Asset Protection Law and the new book on Secrets of Family Business Law Declassifi­ed. He specialize­s in helping family business owners in their legal issues and has differenti­ated himself in crafting family constituti­ons incorporat­ing the use of the law in creating binding agreements in all areas of family businesses.

Another lecturer is Jacob Cabochan who was the director of the Family Business Developmen­t Center of the John Gokongwei School of Management of the Ateneo de Manila University (2012 to 2013) He specialize­s in facilitati­ng family businesses in crafting their family constituti­on and regularly gives talks on Family Enterprise Management, Family Constituti­on and Profession­alizing the Family Business. He will share his extensive research, knowledge, expertise, experience­s and lessons learned being a family business owner himself and a shareholde­r of other family businesses.
