Klassikal Music Foundation to restage ‘Songs from a Silver World’
Following the success of their concert held in May, the Klassikal Music Foundation ( KMF) scholars will be having a repeat of “Songs from a Silver World: The Encore Performance” on Oct. 15, 7: 30 p. m., at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino ( Little Theater) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. The showcase will feature the scholars and their singing prowess as they perform renditions of popular songs used in films.
KMF was established by McDonald’s Philippines founder and chairman Dr. George T. Yang. The foundation aids deserving students in need of training and financial support to continue their study of classical music. Since 2007, the foundation has supported close to 60 scholars, carefully selected from the country’s best musical talents.
KMF scholars, including Asia’s Golden Girl, Gerphil Flores, first presented “Songs from a Silver World” last May at the RCBC Plaza. The repertoire included music from thrillers, James Bond movies, Italian Cinema, Disney, Oscar-winning songs, and other iconic tunes from the silver screen. “Songs from a Silver World: The Encore Performance” is directed by Andrew Fernando, with musical direction by Herminigildo Ranera, choreography by Richardson Yadao and Macel Dofitas, and light design by John Batalla. Proceeds of the showcase will go to the foundation to continuously support new scholars.
KMF is supported by its newest board member, Gerard Salonga. The rest of the members of the board include Dr. George T. Yang, Dr. Raul Sunico, Dr. Raul Navarro, Shirley Bangayan, Lily Monteverde, and Rachelle Gerodias.
Tickets for the repeat concert are available for P2,000 (Orchestra Center); P1,500 (Orchestra Side); and P1,000 (Orchestra Back) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, www.ticketworld.com.ph, and all TicketWorld outlets. For ticket inquiries, call (02) 891-9999.
