THE PENINSULA MANILA THINKS PINK THIS OCTOBER

-

THE PENINSULA MANILA IS PROUD to wear pink this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Marking its sixth anniversary this year, the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer charities continues with The Art of Pink.

“One in every 13 Filipinos falls victim to it and as the general manager of an institution that is celebrating its 40th anniversary and has worked with various local organizations to help make a difference in the lives of Filipino people, I believe very strongly in the fight against this dreadful disease,” says The Peninsula Manila general manager, Mark Choon.

Last year, The Peninsula Manila raised nearly P10,000,000 that has been used to rehabilitate the Breast Care Center of the East Avenue Medical Center. After a nine-month construction period, the center reopens this month with an expanded reception area, a new wing as well as 20 brand-new chemotherapy infusion chairs.

This year, The Peninsula Manila features four works of China’s most celebrated avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist, Chen Man, whose unique visual language combines traditional Chinese philosophy with photography, graphic design, cinematography and digital art.

“Nao Nao” is an exclusively-commissioned series of art pieces that will be installed at ten Peninsula destinations around the world. Each photograph will be covered by two pink dots – symbols of breasts and the colon, a punctuation that precedes a conversation. Visitors will use traditional “nao nao” bamboo sticks to gently scrape the dots and slowly unveil the image behind. The artist hopes that the removal of the punctuation will open up a dialogue about breast cancer and bring awareness to the cause.

The photographs will be auctioned off for the benefit of Philippine Foundation for Breast Care, Inc. (PFBCI) and additional funds will be raised through the sale of the sticks.

Along with the exhibition, the Peninsula Manila has also created pink-inspired afternoon teas, cocktails, dining and spa promotions and special events, with part of the proceeds to be donated to PFBCI.

An exclusive Peninsula in Pink ribbon pin has been designed to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, available for sale at a dedicated donation desk in The Lobby.

The Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea features rosetinted sweet and savory treats and may be paired with a glass of rosé champagne. Special pink desserts, pastries, and cocktails will also be on offer throughout October.

The Peninsula Spa is offering a 45-minute “Pink Glow” Chocolate Body Scrub, using the finest of Philippine cacao that helps keep skin firm and smooth.

Hotel guests booking a “Pink Staycation” package will also help in donating to the fight against breast cancer. Valid until Oct. 31, the room package includes a The Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea (once per stay), 15 percent discount on Franck Provost hair salon services, buffet breakfast for two adults and two children (ages six and below) at Escolta, and an Art of Pink Welcome amenity.
