China Gerona to the music born

-

China Gerona (photo) grew up in a highly-musical environment in the Philippines. That she would follow in the footsteps of her father who is a showbiz celebrity did not come as a surprise to the Gerona family who migrated to the States when she was yet barely a teener.

Even abroad, China showed that her DNA in the performing arts was more than notable. Proof of which she would most of the time excel in many extracurricular activities particularly in the performing arts such as singing, acting and dancing, says mother Rodora.

While abroad, the Gerona family made sure that China would grow up embracing the diversity of cultures in the country that they have found themselves in. This includes inculcating in her to give importance and attention to our own Filipino culture even as she learns about other cultures in America. With the everloving support of her mom, China found herself actively interacting with the Filipino community mostly by way of dishing out entertainment numbers in many Fil-Am gatherings.

She has sung twice the Philippine National Anthem for the boxing bouts of Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire.

The praises abroad for China’s beautiful voice inspired her mom to decide on coming out with an album for her daughter one day. The preparation entailed a singing and acting workshop under Beverly Salviejo and Beverly Vergel, respectively.

Under the guidance of veteran musician-composers Sonny Ilacad and wife Sherbet, China has finally come up with a self-titled album now available in music stores under Star Music with Marivic Benedicto signing the contract on behalf of ABS-CBN. Its carrier single

Sulyap has been airing on Win Radio 91.5 and M.O.R 101.9 and receiving positive feedback from listeners.
