Makati cops probe siblings’ murders

- By ROBERTZON RAMIREZ

The Makati police has created a special task group that will focus on investigating the killing of two siblings this year, an official said yesterday.

Petronio Rosales Jr. was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men in Barangay San Antonio while waiting for a ride home before dawn Wednesday.

Rosales is the elder brother and only sibling of Lauren Rosales, who was shot dead in a jeepney during the morning rush hour in Makati City last July.

No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.

Senior Superintendent Rommil Mitra, city police chief, said that he has alerted all the police officials in Makati to focus on Rosales’ case in order to establish the motive of their assailants.

“The purpose of the special task group is to establish the motive of the gunmen, and from there we will determine who the suspects are,” Mitra said.

He said police officers have not launched a manhunt since they have yet to identify the assailants.

Investigators will no longer pursue any drug-related angles to the two murders after learning that the Rosales family is not involved in illegal drug activities, according to Mitra.

Meanwhile, Mayor Abby Binay said she will personally monitor the development of the police investigation on Rosales’ killing, calling it “disturbing and brazen.”

“Our police should exert all effort to ensure peace and order in Makati, take the needed steps to deter criminal acts and bring criminals to justice,” Binay, who extended her condolences to the Rosales family, said.
