DTI, DA to consolidate industry roadmaps
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Agriculture have agreed to integrate their respective industry roadmaps to further accelerate the growth of the country’s agribusiness industry.
The DTI said both agencies are set to harmonize and merge their industry roadmaps to come out with a unified blueprint for the growth and development of the agribusiness industry.
At present, the two agencies have their own versions of industry roadmaps for the agribusiness sectors and its various sub- sectors namely coffee, cacao, rubber, nuts, coco coir and processed foods such as tablea, carrageenan, meat, shrimp, condiments and fruits.
An industry roadmap assesses an industry’s performance, opportunities, and challenges as well as outlines goals and strategies needed for the industry to be globally competitive.
The roadmaps are crafted and implemented by the industry players themselves with the guidance of government agencies.
DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said the convergence between the two agencies is important in order to thresh out issues and concerns on the extensive scope of the agribusiness industry.
Under the government’s new industrial policy called the Comprehensive National Industrial Strategy ( CNIS), the country is seen advancing the competitiveness and promotion of its domestic industries in both the local and global markets by linking and integrating manufacturing, agriculture, and services to address supply chain gaps and deepen industry participation in global value chains.
The CNIS is the country’s blueprint seeking to link the manufacturing sector with agriculture and services sectors to mutually reinforce a cycle of growth.
“We envision agribusiness as a catalyst to drive regional economic transformation with our country as an agribusiness regional hub,” DTI Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba said.
