Kagawad, 9 others slain in shootings
A barangay councilman, a community leader and nine others were killed in Metro Manila over the past two days. Julius Cesar Buenaflor, kagawad of Barangay Ususan in Taguig City, was sitting on Tomasa Avenue along his coemployees when he was shot by two unidentified assailants on Monday, case investigators said.
He was declared dead on arrival at the Taguig Medical Center before 8 p.m., investigators said.
Buenaflor’s name is in the barangay drug watchlist.
In Malabon, Barangay Longos block leader Anthony Leyte was on his way home after going to a cockfighting arena when two men on a motorcycle shot him along Borromeo street at around 2:15 a.m. yesterday.
One of the assailants dropped a sign claiming Leyte was a drug pusher, said Inspector Dennis Javier, city police chief investigator.
He added that three sachets of shabu were found at the crime scene.
In Las Piñas City, Honorato Navarro, 54, was killed by two motorcycle-riding assailants at around 4:22 p.m. Monday.
He died on the way to a hospital just before 5 p.m., police said.
Navarro surrendered when police officers conducted Oplan Tokhang in Barangay Daniel Fajardo, authorities said.
Also in Las Piñas, Nadia Dumanin and her partner Vincent Manaluz were shot dead by unidentified assailants at past 6 p.m. in their canteen in Barangay Talon Singko, investigators said.
Ester Doctolero, an employee of the victims, was wounded.
Police said the victims surrendered during an earlier antidrug operation.
In Quezon City, three persons were killed in separate incidents since Monday night.
Rowell Cruz, 32, was shot thrice in the head by an unidentified assailant while attending a wake along Malakas street in Barangay Commonwealth at around 1:30 a.m. yesterday.
Police recovered four bullet shells, two deformed bullets, a mobile phone and a piece of paper with a note identifying Cruz as a drug pusher.
Also in Barangay Commonwealth, Anthony Merjuar, 33, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in front of an eatery on IBP Road at past 9 p.m.
In Barangay Payatas A, the body of an unidentified man was found by barangay watchmen along Sto. Niño street just before midnight Monday.
A placard that read, “Tangina mo baka ikanta mo pa kami ang
tumira (You son of a whore, you might tattle that we did it)” was placed on top of the body.
The victim, who was shot four times in the head, was described as between 40 and 45 years old, with a crucifix tattoo on his right shoulder and the name “Abet” tattooed on his left shoulder.
In Navotas, police officers conducting anti-drug operations chanced upon Christian Nofable near the C-3 Bridge shortly before midnight Monday.
Nofable was killed when he reportedly shot at the lawmen. A .38 caliber revolver was recovered from the suspect, city police chief Senior Superintendent Dante Novicio said.
In Pasig City, Jeffrey Cagurangan, 29, was shot dead while he and his partner were sleeping under the Rosario Bridge at past midnight yesterday.
Cagurangan and his partner were described as pushers and users in Barangay Rosario’s drug watchlist, said Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Eastern Police District director.
