-

Tagaytay Highlands dominated the third leg at Ayala Greenfields, pooling 3.5 points under the Greensomes format to foil last year’s winner Forest Hills and snare the 2016 WGAP Cup recently.

Lurking behind the defending champions in the first two stages of the three-leg event, the Highlanders stepped up their attack at Greenfields, winning three matches and halving one to complete their stirring come-from-behind win in the rain-hit circuit organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines.

Tagaytay Highlands wound up with eight points to nip Forest Hills, which lost steam in the final leg and struggled for 1.5 points for a 7.5-point aggregate while Alabang, winner of this year’s WGAP Circuit, placed third with seven points.

Villamor ended up fourth with five points while Camp Aguinaldo failed to recover from a scoreless start at Eastridge and wound up with 2.5 points in the annual event which featured the top five teams in the WGAP Circuit sponsored by Champion Infinity and Metro Pacific.

Class A player Sofia Kim and Class C Erlie Gamut toppled Villamor’s Melissa Gozum and Lisa Sarte, 5 and 3, in tough conditions to spark Highlands’ charge in Greensomes with Karen Buenaventura and Dionne Cu routing Aguinaldo’s Janeth Agripa and Leah Espino, 7 and 6, and Sophie Blanco and Aloma Lopez beating Forest Hills’ Tess Staub and Imelda Yu, 5 and 4.

Rosalie Heo and Connie Mamaril then halved the point with Alabang’s Christine Naidoo and Rachel Shah to cap Tagaytay Highlands’ 3.5- point windup.
