Sketches of the 20-something life
Two of the industry’s freshest 20-year-olds are ready to grow up.
The best thing about being 20 is the fact that I’m no longer a teenager. I have to make responsible decisions and think about the impact I’m going to make when doing certain things,” says Benchsetter Angel Manzano. She, along with Emil Khodaverdi, joins mega clothing brand Bench’s crew of the freshest faces in the fashion industry. Both are fond of being in front of a camera, but balancing that with school and other passion projects can be daunting.
While being 20 entails more pressure to act like an adult, the two 20-year-olds handle it with grace and passion. An export management major at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Emil balances his modeling gigs with school and helping out his brother for a body-building competition. Angel, on the other hand, is a legal management student at Ateneo de Manila University and is a part of the TEDxAdMU team. There’s a certain level of hustle needed to make you stand out from the rest of the faces online. They seem to have figured it out, and we have a feeling that we will be seeing more of them in the future. After all, they say your 20s are your best decade ever.

For starters, #YSProm is back with a bangin’ birthday bash. We took it old school and threw the best birthday party we wish we had. And to warm it up, we also gathered 20 girls who have changed the game in politics, fashion, art, music, business and sports in #YSGirlGang. We also said hello to a new team and, of course, a new home. Youngstar.ph is our brand new space for the youth to share their personal passion.
Every year, we feature upcoming artists, musicians, athletes, etc. through Fresh Produce. This time around, we want to help fresh talents in their journey to get there. And to do that, we created a platform for creative kids to share their thoughts and passions. This Sunday, we’re introducing our very first monthly online zine, The Youth Is On Fire. It’s going to be a collaboration between Young STAR and you, our dear readers — and it’s all going to be for free.
They were right: being 20 is awesome. With a new team, a spankin’ new online space and a few new tricks up our sleeves, we have a feeling that this is going to be our best year yet.
