MESSAGES
Greetings! I thank former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, as well as the officers and members of the UP College of Business Administration Alumni Association ( UPCBAAA) for hosting this gala dinner in honor of the UP College of Business Administration, now known as the UP Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business ( VSB), which is celebrating its centennial. I also congratulate the UPCBAAA and the officials, faculty, staff and students of the College on the success of the 2016 UPCBAAA Reunion. Congratulations as well to the 2016 UPCBA Distinguished Alumni Awardees; the two Centennial Loyalty Awardees—BSBA Class of 1966 and the Jose L. Poe Family; the successful examinees in the October 2016 CPA Licensure Examinations; and this year’s UPCBA Jubilarians—all of whom were honored during the Alumni Homecoming in Diliman. All these achievements truly warms my heart! Both tonight’s Gala Dinner and the Alumni Homecoming are particularly joyous occasions, as they commemorate a significant, once-in-a-lifetime milestone in UP’s history—the 100th anniversary of the UP Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business (VSB), the country’s premier institution for business and management education. As we continue our celebration of the UPVSB’s 100 years, we are likewise renewing our commitment to honor and excellence in teaching, research and public service in the fields of business administration, accountancy and management. The UPCBA alumni have always been proof of the outstanding quality of education that the UPVSB has provided over the last 100 years—with generations of leaders, prime movers and pioneers in government, in the academe, in industry, and in civil society counting among your ranks. As a proud alumnus of the UP College of Business Administration myself, I share in your joy, nostalgia and pride, as well as in your eagerness and determination to see the UPVSB continue to rise and take its place as a regional and global management education institution, dedicated to shaping the minds of scholars, leaders and public servants.
ALFREDO E. PASCUAL President, University of the Philippines
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the UP Alumni Association ( UPAA), I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the UP College of Business Administration ( UPCBA) on the occasion of your 100th founding anniversary celebration. The theme that the UPCBA Alumni Association (UPCBAAA) has chosen for the centenary, “100 Years of Business Excellence”, which says it all most succinctly, cannot be more apropos. It is indeed worthy of everyone’s admiration that, for a full century now – from its inception in 1916 through the last 100 years – the UPCBA has been exerting its best efforts and succeeding, in molding the young minds of thousands of mga Iskolar ng Bayan to become outstanding business leaders. As president of the UPAA and Alumni Regent on the UP Board of Regents, I am very proud to represent, among other UP alumni, the highly regarded graduates of the UPCBA. Many of their names read like a who’s who in Philippine business. Moreover, at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, the UPCBAAA is one of the most dependable alumni chapters supporting the UPAA. In all board meetings and other activities yearround, there is practically never an occasion when the UPCBAAA is not represented. Kudos to UPCBAAA President and former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, as well as the other officers and members of the UPCBAAA, for successfully organizing and hosting the gala dinner today at the SMX Convention Center of the Mall Of Asia. I wish you and all the officials, faculty and staff of the UP College of Business Administration even greater successes in both the academe and the world of business in the next 100 years!
RAMON M. MARONILLA President and Alumni Regent
I congratulate the UP College of Business Administration (UPCBA) on its centennial year. Since its founding in 1916, the UPCBA has become the premier business education institution in the country. It has contributed to nation building by shaping the minds of our nation’s business and political leaders. I am proud to be an alumnus of this prestigious University. Aside from the informal lessons on entrepreneurship which I got helping my mother sell shrimp and fish, I consider the years I spent in UPCBA as an important formative period in my career as a businessman and public servant. There, I learned how to dream big and how to dream for my country. I am sure that the same is true with other graduates who are now leaders in their own right, shaping the future of our country. I am proud to have attended this institution that has an unrelenting commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility. I am also honored to be the President of the UP College of Business Administration Alumni Association (UPCBAAA) at such an historic occasion. I hope that this celebration will allow us, not only to take stock of our achievements, but also contribute to the future successes of the College. As we have consistently done in the past, let us make sure that future generations of Filipino entrepreneurs will have the same quality business education that helped propel us to where we are now.
Mabuhay ang UPCBA! Mabuhay ang UPCBAAA!
MANNY B. VILLAR, JR. President, UPCBAAA
Greetings from the UP Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business!
On behalf of the faculty, I congratulate the UP College of Business Administration Alumni Association (UPCBAAA) for sponsoring the Centennial Alumni gala dinner today to celebrate the centennial of business education at the UP Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business. The gala dinner is a fitting highlight to the program of activities organized by the School for its centennial celebration. The event is an important endeavor that deserves the support of all UP business alumni, young and old. It is a venue for camaraderie and fellowship among the alumni, faculty, friends and supporters. The business alumni have been one of the School’s long-time partners in building the School as a premier training laboratory for future business leaders in the Philippines. In 2012, the UPCBAAA donated a generous scholarship fund that has supported eight deserving scholars, seven of whom have already graduated. The UPCBAAA aims to augment this scholarship fund. To all our alumni, we wish you all the best in your endeavors and we hope that you will continue to share with the School whatever blessings you will reap in the future.
