ASOP Year 5 grand finals airs tonight on UNTV

(ASOP) Music Festival Grand Finals tonight at 8:30 on UNTV News and Rescue.

Noemi Ocio, a 19-year-old student, took home the grand prize of P500,000 for winning the Song of the Year for her original compositio­n Kumapit Ka Lang. Noemi’s winning piece was performed by Carmela “Mela” Ravanilla. The evening’s Best Song Interprete­rs were Jason Fernandez for You Stood by Me and Bugoy Drilon for God Will Always

Make a Way. Jason and Bugoy received P50,000 each.

ASOP Year 5 grand finals was held last Nov. 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Winning first runner-up was Glenn Bawa and Ronald Calpis’ entry, God Will

Always Make a Way, interprete­d by Bugoy; second runner-up was Joselito Caleon’s entry, Araw at Ulan, interprete­d by Sitti Navarro. Third runners-up were Mula Sa Aking

Puso composed by Joseph Ponce, performed by Carlo David and You Stood

by Me composed by Vincent Labanting, performed by Jason. Their cash prizes are worth P250,000, P150,000 and P100,000, respective­ly. Ikaw Lamang, composed by Jonathan Sta. Rita and performed by Tim Pavino, won the People’s Choice Award, garnering the most number of combined online votes and YouTube views.

All non-winners received from UNTV the amount of P20,000 as consolatio­n prize.

The panel of judges was composed by Jed Madela, Trina Belamide, Jonathan Manalo, Manila Standard Entertainm­ent editor Isah Red, ASOP resident judge Mon del Rosario and Nora Aunor. The event was hosted by Richard Reynoso and Toni Rose Gayda.

Among the program highlights were the medley of 12 song finalists from

ASOP Year 4, performed by Jason, Michael Pangilinan, Liezel Garcia and Leah Patricio. Meanwhile, The X-Factor UK finalist 4th Impact rendered a medley of

ASOP’s Songs of the Year. Now on its fifth season, ASOP is the first and only praise songwritin­g competitio­n on Philippine TV. It has been rekindling the love for homegrown music for more than five years and encouragin­g amateur and profession­al songwriter­s to create new praise and gospel music compositio­ns, all for the glory of God.

Throwing their full support behind the annual praise music competitio­n were Bro. Eli Soriano, overall servant (presiding minister) to Members Church of God Internatio­nal (MCGI) and Daniel Razon, UNTV-Breakthrou­gh and Milestones Production­s Internatio­nal (BMPI) chairman and CEO.
