Mighty Sports backs Tang’s St. Benilde coaching stint

- MIGUEL DE GUZMAN

Mighty Sports yesterday threw its all-out support to former Rain Or Shine guard TY Tang, now the man at the helm of the College of St. Benilde squad out to rebound from a forgettable campaign in the last NCAA season.

Aside from sponsoring their playing and practice uniforms, Mighty Sports president Dr. John Sy said they are willing to help the ex-Xavier School star and former Rain or Shine guard in every step of the way like discovering and developing new talents.

“We in Mighty Sports will do everything to make Tang’s coaching career a success. We knew him since his Xavier days and we are very excited for him as he takes a new path in his career,” said Sy.

“If we have to go to the provinces to be able to find fresh talents then we’ll do that,” said Sy.

Tang, who made his first practice session with the Blazers last week, was overjoyed with the early blessing he had received.

“Big gifts before Christmas,” said Tang, who has won championships with La Salle in the UAAP in 2007 and Rain Or Shine in the PBA in 2012. “With Mighty Sports already reaching out, my coaching staff and I will do everything to realize these young players’ dream of playing in the pro league some day.”

While he admits that the task at hand at CSB is tough, Tang believes that with the help of Mighty Sports and other friends they can achieve their goal.

“Here in the CSB, we don’t only see and nurture their talents, but we also make sure that it would open doors or opportunities with their lives after basketball,” said Tang. “It’s a perfect combination of ensuring them of a bright future after their college days and when they start facing the real world.”

CSB has struggled in its NCAA campaign the last few years, especially last season when the Blazers won only once in 18 games.

The school’s best finish came three years ago when they wound up fifth with an 11-7 (win-loss) record.
