DOLE deploys job search kiosks in schools

- Mayen Jaymalin

College students can now search for jobs without leaving their campuses, even before they graduate.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will set up job search kiosks in big universities and colleges in Metro Manila.

This will help students find information on job openings and other career opportunities, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said.

Students from Far Eastern University (FEU) and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) are the first beneficiaries of the DOLE’s new program.

The deployment of job search kiosks in universities is one of the programs of the DOLE to address the high unemployment rate among the youth.

A job search kiosk is an information portal housed in an ATM-type, stand-alone labor market information system capable of employment facilitation like job search and skills matching facility.

UST and FEU management expressed support for the DOLE’s program and vowed to equip and prepare the potentials and competencies of their students on their chosen career paths to help prevent job mismatch and unemployment.

Meanwhile, DOLE has linked up with Edukasyon.ph for the installation of a free web-based job portal system to help jobseekers find their preferred jobs and connect with employers.

“We have always been keen on finding ways to provide more job opportunities for the Filipino and we believe that one way of making this possible is by means of the internet and social media,” Bello noted. Edukasyon.ph ( www.edukasyon.

ph), owned by Engadin Corp. is an online education site in the Philippines which bridges information asymmetry gap between scholarship providers, higher education opportunities and other industries that need an online one-stop shop for all courses, scholarships and other educational opportunities available for Filipinos.

PhilJobNet’s cross-link of Edukasyon.ph in its website will enable netizens to immediately connect to relevant technical vocational schools, graduate schools, executive education and other educational resources at its “Search Jobs Page.”
