8 drug suspects gunned down

At least eight persons with suspected links to the illegal drug trade were killed in Metro Manila since Wednesday.

Two drug suspects were killed during an alleged encounter with policemen in Pasay City yesterday, Southern Police District (SPD) director Chief Superinten­dent Tomas Apolinario told reporters in a text message.

The operation transpired at around 6 p.m. in Barangay 191. Apolinario said the encounter happened underneath Tambo Bridge.

In Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, alleged drug dealer Benjie Asari was killed by an unidentifi­ed assailant at around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday.

A report from the SPD said Asari was killed along Mulawin street in Barangay New Lower Bicutan.

Meanwhile, alleged drug user Jhon Joseph Valesteros, 19, was shot dead at around 3:35 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Santo Rosario in Pateros.

Valesteros, a tricycle driver, was asleep outside his house along Lozada street when a group of gunmen shot him several times, killing him at the scene.

The assailants sped away on a motorcycle, witnesses told probers.

In the same barangay, suspected drug dealer Carlito Reyes, 34, was killed by unidentifi­ed assailants at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police investigat­ors, Reyes was sleeping on a wooden bench along M. Almeda street when the assailants shot him in the head and body.

Meanwhile, three men were killed in separate anti-drug operations in Quezon City since Wednesday night.

Norman Alonzo, 44, allegedly a drug peddler, was shot dead during a drug sting in his home along Sta. Catalina street in Barangay Holy Spirit at around 7:40 p.m. He reportedly started shooting when he noticed he was dealing with lawmen.

A .45 caliber Colt M1911 pistol, two sachets said to contain shabu, bullet fragments, and P500 in marked money were recovered by police.

In Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Efren Belarmino was killed in another drug sting at his house on General Luis street at past 10 p.m.

A Black Widow revolver, fired .45 caliber and 9mm shells, deformed bullets, two sachets said to contain shabu, drug parapherna­lia and P1,000 were recovered from the suspect and the crime scene.

Ricky Remedios, 42, was slain after he allegedly shot it out with police officers in a reported drug den at the Macaba Compound in Barangay Tandang Sora at past midnight yesterday.

Police officers were reportedly conducting Oplan Galugad in the area after receiving reports that Rolando Bumagat, 39, was operating a drug den.

Remedios allegedly served as lookout and exchanged shots with police officers. Bumagat was apprehende­d.

An operative was hit in the abdomen but did not sustain injuries as he was wearing a bulletproo­f vest, police said.

A break-open homemade handgun, three sachets said to contain shabu, a weighing scale and four aluminum foil strips were recovered at the crime scene.

Also recovered from Remedios were a brown wallet containing IDs, P800 in cash, two sachets of suspected shabu while a small weighing scale was recovered from Bumagat.
