Police have arrested a man tagged in the rape and killing of his alleged girlfriend, whose mutilated body was found in Trece Martires City, Cavite on Friday.

Alvin de los Angeles, 20, was collared in Barangay Kaytapos, Indang town at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to city police chief Superintendent Egbert Tibayan.

The suspect claimed the victim, Mitzi Balunzay, 17, a tourism student at the Cavite State University, was his girlfriend.

Balunzay was reported missing by her relatives after she failed to return home on Thursday. She was last seen enrolling in her school. Her body was found in a sack dumped at a vacant lot in Barangay De Ocampo the next day.

Police said they seized Balunzay’s phone, keys and a padlock from De los Angeles.

Probers said the suspect owned up to the crime, claiming he and the victim were lovers and that they broke up recently.

De los Angeles told investigators that Balunzay refused to reconcile with him, prompting him to rape and kill her.

“This appears to be a crime of passion,” Tibayan said, adding the suspect claimed he killed the victim in Indang and dumped her in Trece Martires.

Tibayan said a case of rape with homicide would be filed against the suspect, who will be made to undergo a drug test.
