Conference on cutting-edge neonatology slated
The Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine (PSNbM) is having a three-day conference from Feb. 1 to 3, entitled “Cutting Edge Neonatology: Applications in the Developing World” to be held at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
The first convention day will be highlighted by the presence of Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial who will talk on the “Impact of ASEAN Integration on Regional Perinatal and Neonatal Services.”
Throughout the three days, eminent speakers will lecture on new frontiers in neonatology, detection of early undernutrition, stem cell therapy, and the management of neonatal encephalopathy and NIRDS.
Additional lectures will be on neonatal pain, NICU infection control and antibiotic stewardship, as well as Kangaroo Mother Care and the new family-centered NICU.
Simultaneous symposia on the second day will focus on updates in nutritional interventions, ethical decision-making in the NICU, critical care obstetrics, fetal transfusions and EXIT to airway.
On the final day, the symposia will discuss optimizing standard practice (regarding neonatal resuscitation, vitamin D supplementation and perinatal HIV), newborn screening programs (including expanded metabolic screening, hearing, retinopathy of prematurity and critical congenital heart disease), Philippine human milk banking guidelines, and will mark the debut of PSNbM consensus statements on jaundice, neonatal sepsis, and respiratory distress syndrome.
The Conference provides 100 PMA, 30.5 PPS, and 24 PAFP continuing professional education (CPE) units.
