Unified System ends conflict/Rise of a woman-ager

- By DOMINI M. TORREVILLAS

“Mankind is now in the throes of chaos. International conflict is the root cause of war and sufferings of mankind. Unless we adopt a Unified System, conflict and misery will escalate in our society, and may lead to a nuclear holocaust that can extinguish mankind from the face of the earth.”

The above prognosis is the topic of a

small volume entitled Unified System of New World Order (A Unified System – An Affirmative Act of World Order) authored by Yang Kung Yuan.

The Unified System, writes the author, “guarantees the basic needs of each individual. It will not only eradicate poverty, but also decrease the unproductive competitions among people and races. People will then live in harmony, society will be stable and prosperous, racial discrimination will be eradicated and national boundaries will become a thing of the past.”

The ideals of a Unified System, writes Yang Kung Yuan, “underscore a turbulent and chaotic world borne out of human failures and weaknesses. The Unified System, therefore is meant to address the ways and means to manage and overcome these weaknesses so that a society filled with justice, peace, and prosperity may be achieved.”

Mankind now faces the ultimate crisis of destroying not only itself but also the entire world, writes Yang Kung Yuan. This peril has been brought about by the development of science and technology. The achievements of science and technology have increased man’s control over the material world, but they have also intensified greed and produced highly advanced destructive weapons.

Because of man’s greed, wisdom that should be used for the uplift of mankind is exploited for the benefit of only those in power.

Below are the merits of the Unified System:

- Will draw out the best in an individual. Promote a society made up of pre-eminent individuals who will protect and preserve the public good over and above the selfish interests of the individual or the few in a privileged class.

- Tolerance, meritocracy, self-sacrifice, total sharing and above all, thinking of the general interest and common good above personal interest should be observed at all times.

- The principles and designs of the system will rebuild a new human society that will do away with dictators, privileged classes, factionalism, discrimination, unhealthy social practices and conventions.

- This society under the US will include all human races, who shall live in harmony in one world government where justice, equality, liberty, and righteousness prevail. Everyone will be imbued with morals, knowledge, technical ability and inventiveness.

- The basic unit of this society will be the family which will be responsible for rearing children to become disciplined and creative persons and for taking care of the elderly. Local units shall exercise their authority and establish a harmonious society. Professional and vocational associations and guilds will take charge of the industrial and economic progress, and institutions of higher education will provide ample opportunity for learning.

- The new social structure will set up the interim world government that most promote the following tasks: Increasing world mutual assistance, safeguarding world peace, arbitration of world disputes, elimination of racial discrimination, institutionalization of economic cooperation, and promotion of cultural exchange and development.

The real name of the author is Yu Bon Kiong, who arrived in Manila from Fujian, China, at the age of 11. Hardly reaching adulthood, he started a leather tannery. He would walk to Meycauayan, Bulacan, to pick up his supply from Hermoso. Afterwards, he set up Youngstown Metal at Abad Santos and exported scrap metal to Japan. He later set up Fairmart Plaza Fair stores on Pasong Tamo (now Chino Roces Ave.) in Makati which he turned over to his eldest son, Daniel Velasco, a highly successful entrepreneur in his own right, to devote his time to writing his book on the Unified System.

* * * ON ANOTHER FRONT: The Manila steakhouse scene is experiencing an all time high, with so many different establishments to choose from that serve high quality steaks. Steakhouses are the popular choice when it comes to marking special occasions – whether it be celebrating birthdays, promotions, holiday get-togethers, and especially when closing business deals. Indeed, among the captains of industry, sharing a hearty steak to cap off a successful venture has almost entered the realm of tradition. Given this, I can’t help but notice some very common elements among the socalled “power steakhouses” both here and abroad. Most frequently, there are well-dressed hosts at the front desk, a softly-lit dining area, the subtle noir ambiance, the precision and formality of the servers running delicious food to and fro, and – for lack of a better term – the unmistakable masculinity hanging in the air.

I may sound gender- insensitive when I say this, but I notice that a good steakhouse has a male imprint about it. Perhaps this is partly due to the way that steak is viewed as “manly” food, or as previously mentioned, that men have been bonding and collaborating over well- grilled meat for centuries. This is why I was so pleasantly surprised when I had dinner at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse at Resort’s World Manila recently. Wolfgang’s is exactly the kind of establishment I described above, being the go-to place for high-ranking businessmen to woo clients or close deals. As one of my friends pointed out, it felt like we were in New York or Chicago during the jazz-time era, and the food was definitely good enough to transport me to another time and place.

In fact, I was so impressed by our dinner that I had a brief chat with our server about the astonishing level of quality of the food we had, particularly (or rather, predictably), the meat. While he was explaining how their meat is imported directly from Colorado and dry-aged to perfection, a young lady approached our table and introduced herself politely. It turns out that this capable woman is
