‘Southbound’ at Galerie Roberto
Galerie Roberto presents “Southbound,” which opens on Feb. 3.
Participating in the show are Fil Dela Cruz, Gig De Pio, Edgar Doctor, Raul Isidro, Junyee, Raul Lebajo, Justin “Tiny” Nuyda, Ephraim Samson, and Jose “Pinggot” Zulueta.
Fil Dela Cruz is a consistent winner in national art competitions and a recipient of UST’s Benavidez Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts. Gig De Pio creates refined portraits in charcoal, pastel and oil, exploring abstract and figurative styles. Edgar Doctor is known to have a photographic memory, which has been an asset in remembering images and landscapes seen through his many travels and encounters.
Raul Isidro has been fascinated with abstraction from the start of his career. Raul Lebajo is inclined towards surrealism, infusing his works with images that evoke the realm of dreams and the bizarre. Ephraim Samson is well-known for his portraits and realistic rendering in watercolor, and ranks as among the country’s best watercolorists.
Junyee (Luis E. Yee, Jr.) is a pioneer of site-specific works in the country whose practice cuts across all mediums and disciplines, harnessing the combined potential of painting, sculpture, assemblage, and installation art. Jose “Pinggot” Zulueta is a visual artist and photojournalist. “Southbound” runs until Feb. 17.
