‘South­bound’ at Ga­lerie Roberto

Ga­lerie Roberto presents “South­bound,” which opens on Feb. 3.

Par­tic­i­pat­ing in the show are Fil Dela Cruz, Gig De Pio, Edgar Doc­tor, Raul Isidro, Jun­yee, Raul Le­bajo, Justin “Tiny” Nuyda, Ephraim Sam­son, and Jose “Ping­got” Zu­lueta.

Fil Dela Cruz is a con­sis­tent win­ner in na­tional art com­pe­ti­tions and a re­cip­i­ent of UST’s Be­navidez Award for Out­stand­ing Achieve­ment in the Arts. Gig De Pio cre­ates re­fined por­traits in char­coal, pas­tel and oil, ex­plor­ing ab­stract and fig­u­ra­tive styles. Edgar Doc­tor is known to have a pho­to­graphic mem­ory, which has been an as­set in re­mem­ber­ing im­ages and land­scapes seen through his many trav­els and en­coun­ters.

Raul Isidro has been fas­ci­nated with ab­strac­tion from the start of his ca­reer. Raul Le­bajo is in­clined to­wards sur­re­al­ism, in­fus­ing his works with im­ages that evoke the realm of dreams and the bizarre. Ephraim Sam­son is well-known for his por­traits and re­al­is­tic ren­der­ing in water­color, and ranks as among the coun­try’s best wa­ter­col­orists.

Jun­yee (Luis E. Yee, Jr.) is a pi­o­neer of site-spe­cific works in the coun­try whose prac­tice cuts across all medi­ums and dis­ci­plines, har­ness­ing the com­bined po­ten­tial of paint­ing, sculp­ture, assem­blage, and in­stal­la­tion art. Jose “Ping­got” Zu­lueta is a vis­ual artist and pho­to­jour­nal­ist. “South­bound” runs un­til Feb. 17.
