A 35-member Philippine shooting team, led by former world champion Jethro Dionisio, is competing in the 18th World Shootfest to be held in France this year.
Dionisio, along with Jag Leano, will be competing in the classic category using the single stack firearm.
Businessman Leonard Gino Jr. and Ronald Barcelona will compete in the revolver category.
Junior shooters Khalil Viray and Rolly Tecson will slug it out with more than 200 junior shooters from among over 1,000 participants all over world.
In announcing the roster, PPSA president Jack Enrile said this year’s bets are seasoned and junior shooters who qualified from a series of matches sanctioned by the PPSA and the International Practical Shooting Confederation.
Enrile said he is confident the shooting team will surpass the 100 gold medals earned last year from various tournaments abroad.
“Philippine shooting has proved to the world that Filipino sharpshooters excel in firearm proficiency with a combination of accuracy, power and speed. With the support of the PPSA, we are hopeful that our players will be able to play the national anthem abroad and wave our flag during the ceremonies,” Enrile said.
