Dion­i­sio leads PPSA team to world shoot­fest

A 35-mem­ber Philip­pine shoot­ing team, led by for­mer world cham­pion Jethro Dion­i­sio, is com­pet­ing in the 18th World Shoot­fest to be held in France this year.

Dion­i­sio, along with Jag Leano, will be com­pet­ing in the clas­sic cat­e­gory us­ing the sin­gle stack firearm.

Busi­ness­man Leonard Gino Jr. and Ron­ald Barcelona will com­pete in the re­volver cat­e­gory.

Ju­nior shoot­ers Khalil Vi­ray and Rolly Tec­son will slug it out with more than 200 ju­nior shoot­ers from among over 1,000 par­tic­i­pants all over world.

In an­nounc­ing the ros­ter, PPSA pres­i­dent Jack En­rile said this year’s bets are sea­soned and ju­nior shoot­ers who qual­i­fied from a se­ries of matches sanc­tioned by the PPSA and the In­ter­na­tional Prac­ti­cal Shoot­ing Con­fed­er­a­tion.

En­rile said he is con­fi­dent the shoot­ing team will sur­pass the 100 gold medals earned last year from var­i­ous tour­na­ments abroad.

“Philip­pine shoot­ing has proved to the world that Filipino sharp­shoot­ers ex­cel in firearm pro­fi­ciency with a com­bi­na­tion of ac­cu­racy, power and speed. With the sup­port of the PPSA, we are hope­ful that our play­ers will be able to play the na­tional an­them abroad and wave our flag dur­ing the cer­e­monies,” En­rile said.
