What would you do differently if you were reborn?

- MONS ROMULO

For those who have watched

La La Land, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling’s latest hit movie reminds us that where we are now, and where we will be in the future, are the results of the choices we make. There are times we think of what could have been or what we would do differently if we were reborn, but in the end, for as long as our decisions feel that they are the best, not only for us but for our loved ones, then we will have little or no room for regret.

Mark Bustos, founder, Be Awesome to Somebody, educator, hairstylist

The one thing I would do differently is spend a little more time for myself. While living a life of serving others is something I would never trade for the world, it is important for all of us to value moments of solitude. Solitude allows your body to catch up to your mind and allows your brain to rest.

Pauline Gorriceta-Banusing, Ilonggo restaurateur/chef

If I could only turn back time, I would have been more affectionate, caring and loving to my father who passed away just before my college graduation. I would have been more available to him every time he wanted to eat out or watch a movie. I would say “I love you” and “Thank you” to him more often.

Senator Joel Villanueva

I appreciate all the blessings that God has given me and I couldn’t ask for more. But if I were reborn, I would be a professional basketball player. Instead of dribbling top legislative issues, I’d be dribbling with my team to win a championship. It’s an honor to represent our people in the Senate, to inspire them and steer this nation towards progress. I think basketball also inspires and moves people through teamwork, trust, commitment, discipline, friendship — and of course, the will to win. In fact, I’ve learned life’s powerful lessons playing a tough basketball match and the most important of them all: prepare hard, give it your best shot and you will emerge victorious.

Cecile Lopez Lilles, writer, ABS-CBN Foundation

If I were reborn I would make it a point to listen mindfully and well, especially to those who matter most in my life. I have this tendency to tune out in the face of opposing views and zone out when people don’t hold my interest. I know that if I simply listened, becoming more present in conversations, I would have learned life’s lessons much earlier. I’m thankful that it’s not too late.

Rachel Alejandro, actress, singer, entrepreneur

When I was 15 years old, I had the option to stay in LA with my dad and go to a performing arts school where I could have studied voice, acting and dance. Instead, I went back to my TV career on That’s Entertainment and shortly after, released my very first album. Of course, I’m super thankful for the wonderful things that have happened since then but I often wonder what my life would have been like if I had invested in perfecting my craft and made a go of it in the US when I was younger. If I were reborn, I would change my course just to find out.

Cathy Salceda Ileto, senior director marketing and public relations of Sutherland Global Services and board of trustee, IT Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP)

I wouldn’t change a thing. On the professional front, I would still want to continue to make a difference through my advocacy and initiatives on country competitiveness. I go to work every single day knowing my programs are having a positive impact on the economy, creating a whole new middle class and contributing to nation building. On the personal front, I have everyone I need and want in my life — people who have taught me valuable lessons in life, have either inspired me to become a better person or have motivated me, and made me wiser and more resilient.

Albert Muhlach, businessman

Know ing the things that I know now, I guess I would change my outlook on life and finances. I would surely have a bigger nest egg and I wouldn’t hurt some people that I did in the past. But right now is perfect for me. I wouldn’t change my wife and daughter for anything in the world. They are the pieces in my life puzzle that complete me.

Kakai Arroyo, businesswoman/ photographer

I would probably explore my artistic side at a younger age and nurture my artistic talents. I would start my photography earlier, nurture my drawing talents, and take up painting.

Hazel Perdido, actress, Sunday Beauty Queen

I would be happy being as I am now. With wisdom and faith in the Lord. But if I were reborn, I’d choose to be with my kids while they are growing up, securing their education and being the best mother for them.
