Hermès’ summer is all about pops of color
The sun is out, and so is the bright yellow accent in Hermès’ spring/ summer 2017 collection. This cheery hue adds a pop of color to the French luxury brand’s current clothing and accessories line designed by Véronique Nichanian, deputy artistic director of the Hermès Men’s Universe.
In the world of men’s fashion, this innovative woman continues to create style that defies time. It’s all in the details for this “clothing-object” designer who has been in the fashion industry for about four decades now. After graduating top of her class from the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris, she started her career in fashion as a stylist for the men’s collection at Cerruti in 1976. It was in January 1988 that she became part of the Hermès team and was appointed artistic director of the men’s ready- to- wear line. Her distinct style garnered her the top award for the Grand Prix at the Young Fashion Designers Competition in Paris in December 1988.
Her passion for color and style is tastefully incorporated in her latest collection, which juxtaposes bright tones with warm hues, as well as leather and cashmere. She showcases well-executed contrasting looks such as a blouson in mahogany glove skin paired with a mahogany linen and cashmere T-shirt and narrow trousers in sulphur-yellow cotton and silk with micro checks. The ubiquitous saddle topstitching detail is still there, placing importance on brand heritage.
Nichanian continues with similar looks that play on patterns and micro-patterns, changing effects, tie and dye, and playful overlapping of materials, colors, cuts, and proportions. She continues to defy trends as she steers Hermès’ menswear from one season to the next, and has been doing it for the past 25 years.
No matter the season or year, Véronique Nichanian’s style sense constantly presents balance, sensuality, and a timeless quality.
