Rody denies hand in Leni impeach rap
Saying he was beyond politics, President Duterte yesterday denied he had a hand in the threat of his allies in Congress to impeach Vice President Leni Robredo.
Duterte said his time is precious and he will not waste it on efforts to have Robredo impeached.
“I never did anything, and I will not do anything about it. Ask your questions, but I never lifted a finger against anybody. Tapos
na ako diyan (I am done with that). I am beyond politics,” Duterte said in a press conference at the Davao International Airport before he left for visits to Myanmar and Thailand.
“I do not want to tinker with it. I just want to focus on my job, which you have given me. May I reiterate that I will comply with my promises, the basic things: corruption, drugs and criminality,” he added.
Duterte’s supporters
in the House of Representatives threatened Robredo with impeachment after she sent to a United Nations gathering a video criticizing the summary killings and human rights violations in Duterte’s drug war.
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez earlier said he is mulling the filing of an impeachment case against Robredo and he would make sure it can stand trial.
Duterte also admitted that he is not sure if Robredo is involved in the impeachment case earlier filed against him by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano.
“Well, I will not be surprised if she is there or I will not also speculate if she is not there,” he said.
Duterte said he does not mind Robredo’s own business because he does not meddle in her life.
“I hope she doesn’t also meddle with my own business. As long as it is about work, then it is just okay,” he added.
But the problem with Robredo, Duterte said, was that she thought he was behind the “NagaLeaks” linking her late husband Jesse Robredo to illegal gambling and drugs.
“You can ask any Cabinet member and any military man for that matter and police, ask them, was there a single call from me since I became (president)?” he added.
